Common Issues
Quick fixes for the most frequent questions we see.
Make sure the file is executable: chmod +x Box-*.AppImage. If you're on a system without FUSE, try running with --appimage-extract-and-run. Box will suggest moving the AppImage to ~/.local/bin/ on first run for easier access.
OAuth opens your default browser for authorization. If the browser window doesn't appear, check that xdg-open is configured correctly. For Gmail, you'll need to use an app password instead of OAuth if your organization restricts third-party app access.
Box stores credentials in your OS keyring via libsecret. If you see keyring errors, make sure gnome-keyring or a compatible secret service is installed and running. On non-GNOME desktops, you may need to install gnome-keyring and ensure it's started with your session.
Check that your mail server is reachable and your credentials are correct. If you see a WifiSlash icon on the account, Box couldn't connect. Try right-clicking the account and selecting "Reconnect." For OAuth accounts, the token may have expired — click the account to re-authenticate.
If remote images are blocked, some emails may look incomplete — click "Load Images" in the notification bar to load them for that message. If the email still looks wrong, try toggling dark mode off (status bar) to see if the sender's HTML doesn't support dark backgrounds. You can also adjust the zoom with Ctrl+. and Ctrl+, to improve readability.
